getting old items out the house!

Charity donate boxes

You think you’ve done the hard part, you have ruthlessly gone through an area or room at home and decluttered anything you no longer need. Amazing! Job done, right?

But then, with four or five bags of clothes, kids toys and other random items, you suddenly find there’s a new clutter pile, the pile of donate/ sell items in the hallway, porch or corner of the room somewhere. Fast forward 2 weeks and the kids have started digging out their old toys they no longer played with and decided its their favourite ever toy, the clothes bags you hope you’ll have tie to sift through and ebay the best of and charity the rest are still ALL there.

It’s a hugely common issue, one that my clients frequently ask me about, so much so, that I now offer a service of taking away a car load of charity items on the day I leave for clients.

So, how do we get that sorted, donate piles out of the house efficiently, quickly (before stuff starts creeping back in) and to the right places.

I have taken some time to compile a small list of services that can help in the Brighton and Hove areas. (This list is current at the time of writing this blog, November 2024, and you will need to check out each service is still running at the time of reading this).

CLOTHING:

Here are just some of the companies that offer a service in the line of collecting filled bags of clothes from your home. Check each site for where they collect from and instructions on how to do so, usually you book a slot for them to collect and they take your old clothes and donate it to reputable charitable causes.

HOMEWARES/ BOOKS:

These companies collect a whole range of items but including select homewares and books. If you have enough items, you can usually arrange for them to collect from you, though the top two also have drop off points.

All three sites listed above for homewares and books may take toys also. If not, then this company collect certain children’s toys and items (always check their list online).

FURNITURE:

As long as furniture is in good condition and meets currently safety guidelines, you can also try these companies for collecting furniture from your home.
