a place for everything

The house is always messy, I can’t find anything, the kids toys are unmanageable… these are just a few of the issues many of us face daily. Trying to manage work, homes, bills, relationships and family commitments, it’s not easy!!
One of the main problem solving areas I tackle for clients is making a designated place for everything, sometimes that requires a bit of a declutter, and a lot of organising or re-homing items. But once you have the items you use, need and love, the kids toys which are suitable for them to play with now, etc, then the key to success (in keeping a home more tidy and organised) is finding a place for everything.
Box it, label it, put it somewhere accessible, as long as you have a place for each category of items, then you (and your family) start to tidy away back into those places.
With kids toys (always a big problem area), the same applies, but try to home collections of toys together in a basket, box or shelf and label it. Then for toys you want your child to access alone and regularly, place them somewhere your child can reach easily.
For smaller odds and ends, ‘clutter culprits’ like pens, sellotape and spare keys; if you have an available drawer for these, then use some drawer divider pots within the drawers to keep these separated and easier to find.
Something as simple as a pen pot (even an old mug or cup) to hold those odd pens and pencils, which inevitably end up in the kitchen or lounge, just placed on a shelf or surface that’s easily accessible.
Small clear boxes are perfect for inside cupboards, to house batteries, lightbulbs, stationary and the like. I use a label maker to label boxes but you can start with a simple address label and hand write what lives in each box.
That ‘dumping drawer’ or overflowing cupboard can quickly become an organised space, saving your time spent hunting for things, making tidying up quicker, and creating a calmer environment to live in.
Of course if that all sounds like too much, then you know who to call for help…
